My name is Akilah Winters. I am an award-winning journalist who values true storytelling with my previous work as a digital content producer at 11Alive. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Florida A&M University. I recently won a Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GABBY) award for the best online breaking news coverage for my coverage of the 2023 Midtown Atlanta shooting. I also won an award for the 2022 Sunshine State award in the Best Serious Feature category, where I placed third for my "Tally 19: the Enduring Trauma of Revolution" article. I was born and raised in Key West, FL. I view myself as an individual who enjoys creating art and incorporating it into my unique perspective on life. During my journalistic career, I have written numerous articles for 11Alive and student media while attending school. I interned at both IMPACT Strategies, a political advocacy firm, and KTHV, a TEGNA station in Little Rock, as well as WCTV in Tallahassee.
