Unveiling the Journalist
My name is Akilah Winters. I am an award-winning journalist who values true storytelling with my previous work as a digital content producer at 11Alive. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Florida A&M University. I recently won a Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GABBY) award for the best online breaking news coverage for my coverage of the 2023 Midtown Atlanta shooting. I also won an award for the 2022 Sunshine State award in the Best Serious Feature category, where I placed third for my "Tally 19: the Enduring Trauma of Revolution" article. I was born and raised in Key West, FL. I view myself as an individual who enjoys creating art and incorporating it into my unique perspective on life. During my journalistic career, I have written numerous articles for 11Alive and student media while attending school. I interned at both IMPACT Strategies, a political advocacy firm, and KTHV, a TEGNA station in Little Rock, as well as WCTV in Tallahassee. In my work, you will find many articles aimed at raising awareness about the issues affecting people in their communities.
